Could it also be that lawyers aren't advertising on TV to sue vets if Rover has a side effect from his medicine, or if the puppy was born with a severe birth defect?

I agree that medical malpractice suits have a distorting effect on the way medicine is practiced in this country. Lawyers have a distorting effect on the way all business is practiced here in the US and one of the reasons capital is increasingly driven off shore. Anyone who is in business in the US, in any profession, has a liability problem hanging over them, one judgment away from closing their doors. I have huge liability in my own profession and all I work on is film and digital files, no lives at stake, just money.
