I get a statement every three months from my 401k administrator. It the starting balance, what the gains and losses are and what mutual funds I own at the end of the quarter. I sometimes get the paper out and check to see what the price is on the day I receive the statement. The administrator is audited to ensure that they own the funds they say they do.

If the federal government had to do this, it would prevent the problem we are facing. Government does actually lock box the bonds. Then they spend the money they borrowed from the "trust fund".

We need a responsible system that prevents government bureaucrats from stealing our money. The current system is bankrupt because the money to pay back the bonds was spent as it came in. Social Security is bankrupt.
