There is a difference between "what Eason said was..." and "how I interpreted that was..." or even the presumptuous "what he insinuated or implied was..."

How about using "I believe he intended to insinuate or imply...". Clearly marking the statement as opinion, but at the same time getting the full opinion out there rather than just a literal accounting of his words. Alternatively you might use "apparently he meant to insinuate...", or "it looks to me like he meant to imply that..."
