See the poor of rural America. They are just that poor, not gangsters, drug addicts and bums panhandling for "food" next to three liquor stores. Why the inconsistency?

I don't think poverty necessarily represents a moral failing, but that demanding help by use of government weaponry does. It is an infringement of human rights to force anyone to help anyone else. I also think forcing help by law and government programs robs us of the opportunity to be charitable and that this is more important than most people realize.
