Hi Jay - did you ever get around to reading Thomas P.M. Barnett, as I recommended? Especially his blog. He's coming out with a new book soon, too.

Anyway, he's not at all worried about China. He says the Pentagon has created the idea of China as Our Next Big Enemy because that's the way the Pentagon is presently structured, it needs a global super-power that's basically equal to us in order to prepare to fight a conventional war.

Otherwise, all the Four Stars are left with nothing to do, and they didn't get where they are without protecting their power base.

Barnett was trained as a Sovietologist right before the end of the Soviet Empire, so he's using his Sovietology skills on the Pentagon. They let him go a month or two ago because he wasn't toeing the party line, so now he's freer to speak his mind.

Anyway, I went to Capitol Hill to hear him speak to a roomful of Congressional staffers and a few Congress critters yesterday. I thought he was out of his mind when he suggested that we call upon Russia and China (and India) to help us establish a peace-keeping force in what he calls The Gap.

I have no idea what Putin is up to, if he's actually involved in the deaths of the politicians in Georgia and the poisoning and vote fraud in Ukraine. Could be Russian Mafia, could be old hard liners, could be Putty-put himself.

China and Russia working together isn't really like cats and dogs sleeping together. But militaries are expensive. If the will can be found to join forces within the Core, a super-power super-Core super-NATO - is this imaginable?
