Hi TH, "U.S. stocks edge higher in afternoon trading

Wed 3:26PM ET - MarketWatch

NEW YORK -- U.S. stocks turned higher Wednesday as investors refocused on Fed chief Alan Greenspan's upbeat assessment of the nation's economy, while taking note of his warning that interest rates may still be too low."

So Greenspan finally spoke.

RE: "mixed on inflation/deflation. I see real inflation in the non-core items (the ones we use a lot of <G>)"

Isn't that the truth.

RE: "but I just purchased my 11th DVD player, so that helps offset things a bit."

Is hightech industry the only industry where things get less costly?

RE: "As for CPI, well does it matter? Don't they just create the number they need for this months agenda?"

CPI isn't believable to me, it certainly doesn't represent true increase in costs in the Bay Area, not even the local CPI-SF (CPI for San Francisco). It's a useless figure because it neglects the largest purchase item for a consumer - housing.

RE: "My gas, electric, and cable bill are much higher."

Just received my highest electric bill ever. Don't have cable (don't own a tv.)

Regards,
Amy J
