The British and the French are notorious here.
The French? They invented the perfume industry for a reason.

The Germans aren't much better.......and the Dutch are not far from the French and the Brits.

I will tell my former Dutch girlfriend for 7 years...
As for the inputs on the British and the French, a close female friend of mine, who by no means is a saint, told me this.

BTW, does your experience come from male or female experience?
Please don't get me wrong here, no in-between-the-lines reading I mean...

Mostly the men.....the women definitely smelled better. And I should say that when some of the guys would invite me to their homes, they tended to wash more then when they were on the road. However, what I noticed even with the women....esp. French women..is that they would wear the same clothes for two or three days straight. Now in the states, no woman would ever do that. And remember these were mostly students........I didn't hang out with European corp. execs when I traveled. They probably smelled better......men and women. Though it seemed that most people smelled not so good dans le Rive Gauche.

My Euro friends from that period always told me that I smelled 'fresh' like most Americans. <g> I think its important to remember that in the states the climate is much more extreme than in Europe. Temps around 30 C. are not uncommon here whereas they are mostly uncommon in Europe.........at least away from the Med. Sea. Its at those higher temps that white people sweat like pigs........so I think our bathing habits developed accordingly.

Still believe the Germans take a bath once in a while. Not so common with the British. My "no saint" female friend, who now lives in Tel Aviv after 13 years in London, pointed out to me that the French were as bad or worse than the British.

And I need to assert that my German friends now never smell bad but they are architects, engineers and lawyers who work on the corporate level. They claim all Germans smell good all the time. However, that was not true of some German students I traveled with one time.

The cleanest people on Earth are the Japanese. At least one bath every day and they don't perspirate like white people. But if you need personal space to breath, don't go to Tokyo and especially not into their subway in rush hours.

A true story.........through a business arrangement, a Japanese guy ended up staying in my place for a month. Every nite, I couldn't help notice that he would bring out this white cloth and put it in the center of the bed. I later learned it was to collect any discharge that might occur during that nite. That really cracked me.
