Carter basically had Iran engage in an act of war against us and he did not do a dang thing about it. He cut the military forces to the bone and didn't even have the resources to do anything about it.

What was once derided as a wild idealistic and naive idea (the US making support for democracy and human rights around the world a centerpiece of it's foreign policy...), when proposed as national policy by Carter, is NOW the centerpiece of Bush's 'new' vision for US foreign policy.
