Agreed.

And I understand that in the final analysis we must abide by the law. But at times like that I find it pretty hard not to allow the person to BE THE LAW as well. If thats what he needed to do to press on with his life I have to say I almost understand.

It was, indeed, a tragic instance, though I don't think the lawyer's advice was necessarily that bad.

I agreed with your post up to the last sentence. Your last sentence You make the mistake of arguing from the specific to the general without considering the possibility of the potential existence of non-conforming cases. That's a logical error.

Otherwise, I agree with your post.
