Not everybody has to switch for Apple to double or even quadruple it's market share (ore even a heck of a lot more). So we'll forgive you this one cpu.
But I've never seen voice-to-text software that was worth the effort. It always seems you spend more time correcting than writing - even on windoze. Every time some enthusiast demonstrates it to me, it's always, well, yeah, I have to fix this and that and it'll be trained soon and... Never happens!

Hi Allen,

>>...I advised a client to get a Dell notebook instead of an iBook or PowerBook...<<

Well, the truth is going to come out. I've never used a Mac. I'm a PC user (but an AAPL investor). Hope the board will still tolerate me! :-) Anyway, how about Sony Vaio notebooks for your clients that need a PC notebook? I know Sony gets ragged on here a bit <g>, but I personally have used both Dell and Sony notebooks, and I've been happier with the Sony product. In fact, I recently bought a T150 P/L notebook for traveling (this was before I became an AAPL shareholder!), and I've been extremely happy with it. Any particular reason you recommend Dell?

What software package?

For the Mac there are two major apps that perform speech processing:

IBM ViaVoice for Mac OS X Edition

and (you guessed it)

iListen
Speech recognition software which allows you to dictate, correct, transcribe, edit and format in virtually all applications; includes text macro feature; AppleScript compatible, hands free correction.

I researched this type of software recently; the iListen package was rated higher than the IBM, but I did not see a cross platform comparison.

Are the PC offerings much superior?
