Yes... but China is much closer to several large Russian fields that have yet to have their gas commercialized.

(As you correctly note: the US has massive coal reserves... among the largest in the world, estimated variously at a 350 to 500 year supply. China, too, has extremely large coal reserves... but perhaps less then ours.)
