'Sexless' dating agency in China A dating agency in China has launched with the idea of uniting men and women who want to get married - but who have no interest in sex. The Cupid agency, in the eastern Chinese city of Nanjing, caters exclusively for couples seeking a completely sexless relationship. Law Jun, who runs the agency, told BBC World Service's Outlook programme he got the idea when a previous agency was approached by two twins from Anhui province, who, because of the way they were joined at birth, were unable to have sex. "Some people wanted to help them, or to be their husbands. Others wrote telling me that they are in similar situations. "So when I discovered that all these people exist, I decided that as a society, we ought to show more care for them." Brutal husbands The files of the Cupid agency currently list 127 new clients. For a fee of $3, Law Jun registers the people who write to him. He also requires copies of their ID cards and medical records, and insists they go to Nanjing to prove their identity. A total of 65 people turned up from all over China - two thirds of whom were women. Law said that the reason many of these women sought a future without sex was because they had been hurt in their first marriages. "They did not marry good men... their husbands may have beaten or swung at them, or been unbearably brutal in some way," he explained. "After women have experienced this, they may have some sexual inhibitions," he said. He added that other women formally had husbands "who sexual appetite was too strong. "So she may think that if she can find a man who can't have sex, she'll be safe." Following the December event, around 20 couples are now in the process of getting to know each other. Among the newer names on the register are Jang - a 28-year-old chemist whose treatment for cancer at the age of 20 left her unable to have sex - and Fung, a 36-year-old shopkeeper. 'Love of my dreams' Fung said that she had a "psychological barrier" regarding sex, which came from the fact that her first marriage failed without a child being born. She explained that is instead looking for a family through "spiritual companionship." "I really need a life without sex," she added. "I'm really pleased, because now I know there are people in the city and country who are like me." However the agency has also attracted some men too.
