nspolar's theory is that we are heading into an oscillatory period, maybe for quite some time. The fundamental reason relates to excitation and response, and lacking of damping.

Since the damping factor is very low now, small pertubations cause larger than normal response. An analagous situation is a car on a good set of springs, but without any shocks. How would anyone like to drive that one down a bumpy road? They would get sea sick.

Hence we may have to throw a lot of the old baggage we carry around out the window, in regard to certain aspects of investment theory. One theory that probably will continue to have some merit is 'follow the money'.
