Tax measures which provide incentives to raising families is one way.

This is bass-ackwards, too, IMO. We set up a system that relied on certainly population trends that didn't come to pass. What to do about it? You change the system, not pay people to fulfill the faulty demographic projections.

I look upon this move to private pensions as the end game. I think the Republicans and the Democrats both realize this, but nobody wants to talk about it. It's the Democrat's health care "salami game" turned back on them. Get a small percentage over to private, and increase it every couple of years when the results look good. 50 to 60 years, and it's done.

I find the debate we are having about SS phantasmagoric because of what is not said. It's clearly about demographics since better demographics will not only solve the SS problem, a growing or at least stable population will keep us from facing the terrible problems that Japan and Western Europe will face from their own lousy demographics and their utterly misguided attempts to deal with them

Still comes down to a system problem - if SS wasn't a Ponzi scheme subject to demographic inequalities, we wouldn't be having this discussion. Kill the ponzi scheme, IMO.

EDIT: ..but I get your point about a demographics problem.
