I have a friend who used to win the largest hog at the fair contests with his hogs. His secret to really fat hogs was feeding them oatmeal.

I am not an expert on corn, cosmicforce. Or potatoes, for that matter. There is a strong link between consumption of milk and juvenile diabetes, but I haven't come across any studies about corn. When Dr. Campbell is talking about a plant-based diet, such as in the Chinese study, it is not a corn and potatoes diet. It is a very wide variety of fruits and vegetables and I would assume tofu and nuts and seeds as well.

I think moderation is important. I wouldn't eat a lot of corn and potatoes, but I am not afraid of eating organic corn and potatoes in moderation within a balanced diet. Potatoes are very high in protein for vegetables, and are very satisfying when on a diet. For the calories involved, they really result in a feeling of fullness, according to Weight Watchers. I do think high fructose corn syrup may be the villian in the America obesity epidemic, however. There have been some studies on that.
