Beyond the oil factor, there was the need for Bush to shake the manner in which he got [s]elected in the first place and, toward this end, it therefore was important that he be a 'war president' come reelection since no American 'war president' has ever lost (perhaps they're behind schedule and thought they'd be in Iran or Syria by now--who knows!); the lucrative rebuilding contracts in order to grease friends in high places; the assistance the invasion would geographically and politically provide Israel; and to make amends for the raw deal his dad got from the first invasion. One could also argue a possibility that the GOPwingers wanted to weaken influence of the UN.

These dealers, often very well connected to the Republican and Likud Parties, have been given a fabulous opportunity, not unlike that offered to the German high command when they looted the museums of France, Holland, Belgium, etc. The operation was a near complete success.
