"SSA says 2018 is when net cash flows will be negative. 2042 is the date the SS Trust Fund will be depleted. " That's still not bad. We have.....what....over 30 years to plan ahead for the deficit. Not really. 1 - We have to plan for 2018 as much as we do for 2042. When the SSA needs to get money back from the treasury we have to figure out how we are going to handle it. Also you have to start implementing the plan long before there is a problem because if you wait until last minute you get things like sudden 25% cuts in benefits. I think this whole SS 'crisis' is what you like to call a straw man. ted
