Pigs are smarter than dogs, redfish. And they are very affectionate, and make good pets (although housebreaking is a bit of an issue). They live in utter despair on factory farms, though, which is really sad. No one really needs to eat a pig. One of the big things the animal rights movement is wrestling with is how we culturally choose to love and protect cats and dogs, but eat pigs. It is one of those things there is really no logical answer for.

It is really important to the meat industry that no one finds out how appealing or lovable pigs are, because then not so many people would gobble them up.

Here is some more information on pigs. I was looking specifically for the article I read about pigs doing problem solving research and wearing little headphones, but I could not find it. This is a start, though:

I'n providing you another link for pigs, redfish. This one is from PBS, a very reliable source. One of the factoids on this page is that pigs are more intelligent than any domestic animal.
