John I signed up to be put on a waiting list for gmail about 6 or 8 months ago. They said they would inform me when it bacame available. I guess it is in beta because there is a tiny "beta" below the gmail logo at the top of the page. Below is a copy of the email I got from google which told me what to do to sign up.
