Shipments of POS systems to China are growing 20% annually.

China this year will become the largest importer of point-of-sale terminals, according to IHL Consulting Group. The research firm, which specializes in the retail industry, says shipments of POS systems to China are growing almost 20% a year.
Germany, which constitutes the largest POS market in Europe, had been the largest buyer until now. That market has just about saturated, though, according to IHL.

Japan is Asia's largest market for POS systems, but, like Germany, it's near saturation, according to IHL.

Less than 2% of China's retailers use POS systems. The consulting firm has published a report that describes the market as "extremely strong." At the same time, Chinese (and Asian retailers in general) are mostly buying low-end PC-based POS terminals and PC-on-cash-drawer setups. Microsoft operating systems dominate the Asian POS market.
