I believe that the shelf life for Tamiflu is 2 years. For prophylaxis, I believe the recommended dose is 1 pill per day for as long as potential infectious source is present.

However, Tamiflu is much better against N2 (like California H3N2) than N1 (like avian H5N1 or WSN/33 H1N1), so 1 pill a day may be pushing it for H5N1 or H1N1. Tamiflu was given to the tigers in Thailand without much obvious success against H5N1(I believe virtually all exposed died - definitely 1/3 of the tigers in the zoo died).
