It's a little stranger than just being gay as you propose. This guy was a paid gay escort...a prostitute. With his naked pictures on the internet. Do you have naked pictures of yourself on the internet? Why does he get a Whitehouse press pass under an assumed name? Why does he have an invitation to Whitehouse Christmas parties? He's obviously "well connected" should I say. He was given news scoops as well...and was planted to lob up softball questions...some of the questions would hardly even be called questions. With the security checks this Whitehouse is doing...we're very likely to find UBL any day now...in the Whitehouse press room!
