" After all, the species on the Ark are the same as those that exist on the planet now"

Not quite. What about the fish? Saltwater fish can't live in fresh water and vice versa. Now fish that live in brackish water can often swing both ways, but not always. I don't remember the Bible talking about fish at all...

I understood that when the earth got flooded only the areas inhabited by humans were hit. I think we can assume that some fresh water lakes survived.

Or plants for that matter.

They took seeds with them on Ark. The storm only lasted 40 days and 40 nights.

Pretty sure it just talked about animals. And what about bacteria? Soil bacteria, in particular, have varied responses to be covered by water.

The bacteria would be on them, in their clothes, on the animals, in the straw, etc.
