As Hugh Hewitt dryly notes, "Hillary is running for President. Announcement to follow in three years." She is already positioning herself as a centrist, and has decided to sound cautiously optimistic on Iraq. She knows what is needed to win.

Her trouble is imho that she just can't fake sincerity as well as Bill can. Every time she opens her mouth, I see the gears turning. Every sentence is calculated. One of the few virtues of our endless campaigns is that it is quite tough to hide your actual character for the entire duration. The phoniness starts to grate.

"...greased weasel in heat."

This is funny.

Sure is, if it didn't remind me of something Hunter Thompson could have written.

I liked Thompson at a certain stage in my life.

It stuck despite the fact that I came to heartily disagree with him because he was honest in his rage.

I'll never forget his 1975 or 1976 piece on seeing the future of American politics--Jimmy Carter.
