Must be a "baby boomer" thing.

Hunter S. Thompson was an idol to those who came of age during the late 60's-early 70's.

Plus which, it always sucks when someone you like commits suicide, like Thompson or Kurt Cobain. Or is murdered, like John Lennon. Or dies some other stupid way, e.g., drug overdose, like Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, and Janis Joplin, among many others.

Somehow it doesn't bother me as much when people die of natural causes, like cancer or a heart attack, even at a very early age.

No matter how tough any given day can be, seems like almost always tomorrow turns out better, so it's worth sticking around.
