Neolib, I think that would be more like "random drift" then "natural selection". Natural selection is selective pressure from more pervasive trends (like say global warming).

Well, I don't want to dive too far into the analogy, but if you think about it, many people think that terrorism, like crime, will always be with us. So in that sense, you could call it a "pervasive trend."

Assuming this is true, we should all stay out of crowded areas like train stations, skyscrapers, and shopping malls, if we're to avoid being "naturally selected." Kind of like how we currently stay away from areas of high crime, like south central L.A., SE D.C., and virtually all of Detroit. ;-)
