For instance, here is an interesting blog...

Are blogs driving reform of Old Line MSM? Could be.
We shouldn't underestimate the power of fear in reforming the MSM. Reading this story over at Michelle Malkins site I am wondering if fear wasn't the driving force behind the Independent jumping all over the story on the "other" U.N. Sex scandal. All of MSM has to be watching the disintergration of CNN and the NYT's market share and wondering how to respond.

There is no doubt that many of them will come to the correct conclusion that far from wishing them to disappear we wish them to reform. There is no desire as far as I can tell from those blogs I read sometimes hourly for MSM to vanish. We also have no desire for them to stop advocating a political position in their opinion pages, each owner or set of owners has every right to push their political agenda. We just want them to understand that when they publish their positions we will be fact checking their asses and if they wish to avoid unpleasent sorts of exposure they should be prepared to prove their facts and stand behind their statements. The internet is like an elephant, your statements are public record and that lasts indefinitely. If you are not consistent you will be called on it. It won't help your cause to deny your inconsistency. Explain it, everyone changes from time to time. Especially you liberals whose facts stand upon such shifting sands....hehe.

Furthermore speed is an issue, laziness is punished brutally on the internet by that most damaging of attacks, disinterest. So MSM is in a corner, they cannot proceed as they have in the past when they have taken their time to publish stories due to the legendary laziness of their best and brightest to fact check their positions. But if they attempt to be fast by not fact checking themselves they die from ridicule. They cannot sidestep the battle, and there is no retreat. The only way to move is to advance and to do so while displaying the sort of careful analysis they have never known at a speed they have never imagined. Or they will die.

The Independent presents the sort of story that shows the power of MSM when they get it right. Lets hope thats a trend because we need them healthy. The war is far from won and we cannot win it by ourselves. We need both MSM and the Democrats to grow up and join the rest of the adults.
