Erratic PowerBook trackpad behavior: Button not working, jumpy behavior from PowerBook G4 17" 1.67 GHz models

MacFixIt - Monday, February 21 2005 @ 08:29 AM PST

We've previously covered erratic trackpad behavior for several different Apple portable models. In particular, the new 2005 PowerBook G4 models (with trackpads no longer manufactured by Synaptics) appear to exhibit slower movement of the cursor than previous generations.

One model of 2005 PowerBook G4, however, has emerged as the most susceptible to these issues based on a number of reader reports: The 1.67 GHz PowerBook G4 17".

A number of readers have noted not only slow and sometimes jumpy behavior from the trackpad surface, but also problems with the system's ability to recognize clicks on the trackpad button that occur on up to half of the attempted clicks.

Wednesday announcement to usher in new color iPod minis, iPod changes

By Ryan Katz, Senior Editor

February 22, 2005 - One day before Apple is expected to announce new iPod minis, a reliable source has shed light on Apple's Wednesday announcement, suggesting that almost the entire iPod line could see an update then.

Following our Friday report on a color-screen 6GB iPod mini, insider information points to six new colors making their debut. Pricing on the new mini is said to be $199, although this may be for a 4GB model that Apple will continue to produce and not necessarily the new 6GB mini, which we originally reported will sell for $249.

Be nice if one or more of these incorporated some of Synaptics touch screen technology. - Herb
