Re: I have come to the conclusion it was not Syria who did this deed.

Could be the CIA, Mossad, Saudi Arabia, but not Syria. there was nothing to be gained.

What the western powers, and their Middle East agents, the Isra'Elis, fear most is Hezbollah.

Well, as far as I'm concerned, I've no difficulty admitting Syria, somehow, was behind the assassination of Rafik Hariri... just as, remember, I suspected her of masterminding the Madrid bombings ("311") but then... so what? The late Rafik Hariri is but the last one in a very long series of wasted third-world leaders:

Message 21051989

Lebanon was turned into a client state of Syria ever since the later has held sway over it in 1990... We've been showed big demonstrations in Beirut and Maronite (Christian), French-speaking Lebanese venting their outrage at Syria but Christian Lebanese make up only 30% of the Lebanese people... I guess many Sunni and Shiite Lebanese have got a big stake in maintaining good relations with Syria. Keep in mind that Hezbollah is both a terrorist organization AND a political party enjoying popular support --pretty much along the lines of IRA/Sinn Fein in Northern Ireland.

So my guess is that PM Hariri was assassinated by pro-Syrian Lebanese (Hezbollah) who have no interest in cutting off Lebanon from its Syrian patron.

Somehow, Hariri is a collateral casualty of the money vs politics logic: granted, he was an outstanding statesman who eventually gave his life for his country yet, he's also the proof that money, big money doesn't solve everything... Splurging Saudi dollars here and there, distributing scholarships to Lebanese students, rebuilding Beirut, etc. all that was very nice indeed but... who provided the geopolitical stability to secure all those investments in the first place? I mean, the EU too did finance a lot of Palestinian utilities, roads, harbors, etc. even a casino in Jericho!!! Only to watch it all pounded to rubbles and ashes by Israeli bombers....

Gus

Told you so....

Al-Hariri's assassination has galvanised a strong current of unity, unprecedented since the end of the civil war in 1990. Sectarian differences had until now kept Syria's grip in Lebanon unchallenged. Among Damascus's chief backers here is the Muslim Shia Hizbullah, itself a target of UN Resolution 1559. But Prime Minister Karameh said, "If the Syrians leave who will strip Hizbullah of its arms? And who will enter [Palestinian] camps to strip them of weapons?" Ties with Syria should be treated "through dialogue and constitutional institutions, and not by bickering or by taking to the streets", Hizbullah Secretary-General Sayed Hassan Nasrallah told some 150,000 people at a rally marking the Shia commemoration of Ashoura. Nasrallah was hinting at the strength of his party in the face of mounting calls for Hizbullah to disarm and for the Lebanese army to deploy troops along Israel's border to end tensions that have persisted despite Israel's May 2000 withdrawal. Syria and Lebanon have so far justified the group's armed action by Israel's continued occupation of the disputed Shebaa Farms. Nasrallah has kept the door for dialogue with the opposition wide open. On Monday, opposition leader Jumblatt urged Nasrallah "to join the procession of the Lebanese who want freedom and independence". Addressing Hizbullah's chief, Jumblatt told reporters that the opposition does not seek enmity with Syria but has made it clear that they will only engage in dialogue with Syria based on the Taif Accords. He said all state institutions in Lebanon are being controlled by Syria's intelligence units, whom he reiterated "were involved" in the assassination of Al-Hariri. Responding to concerns over renewed civil strife in Lebanon, Jumblatt said, "A new war will not erupt, and there is no justification for it. The majority of the Lebanese people are united, but we only wish for Sayed Nasrallah, the grand Lebanese, who liberated Lebanese land from Israel, to join the convoy."

In a nutshell....

Over the past 15 years Lebanon engineered two miracles -- the miracle of reconstruction, which boasted Rafiq Al-Hariri as its symbol and champion, and the miracle of liberation, with Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah playing the leading role. Each complemented the other. Reconstruction could not have been achieved in the absence of resistance, and liberation could not have succeeded without reconstruction. Reconstruction provided the resistance with national unity, and the resistance provided the reconstruction with a deterrent.

It would be naïve to imagine that Israel has forgotten the day when it had to run away in shame, abandoning its dearest allies in Lebanon. All those who helped bring about that shame -- the Lebanese resistance, the Syrian and Lebanese regimes -- are targets for revenge. Israel's path is now open. It will try to destroy Lebanon's national cohesion and the Iranian-Syrian-Lebanese alliance.

Len,

Thank you for your e-mail. The fact that your a Iraqi and transsextual has no impact on the US politics, it is your problem. Maybe you shold see your psycologist and ask for help, attacking US and Israel will not help you. Pleas know that I have great respect for the gay community and I believe your intitled to your rights. However, politics is diffrent, you should not allow your fursteration to blare your visions. Mr. Bush never promised during is campagnes to provide trans-sextual with money to change sex, nor he made any praticular promises on AIDS. That is a part of the medical package that all US Citizen will be enjoying. In any case you have my full sympathy and I wish you recovery.

Your friend
