Of course it was 'catchy'. He tries to write for effect. Never-the-less, I believe at it's heart it is true... (although I prefer my reformulation: 'The truest definition of freedom is the freedom to be stupid. Assuming that one's 'stupidity' does not harm others....

"All societies have law and structure. What makes a free society different is a mechanism for the people to enact guidelines that serve for the betterment of civilization.

That's WAY TOO VAGUE. You could be arguing for Socialism, Communism, Theocracy, or Fascism equally with such an over-broad statement. (Surely they *all* think what they are proposing in social forms is 'for the good of society'.)

Never-the-less, the greater the extent of a government's meddling in individual lives, the more they mandate what people can and cannot too, then the greater the level of Authoritarianism in the society... and the lower the level of individual's freedom.
