It should do wonders for saving.

The amount of money allowed under SS, just like with IRAs, is a pittance. People need to save more than that. If people saved as much as responsible people should, the economy would tank.

As for interest rates, you're right. Good excuse. But when people reach retirement, that excuse won't pay the rent.

If you want to see the hidden difference in our standard of living compared to Europe look at the homes we respectively own. By our standards, Europe is a "nation of huts." Our Elite sneer at our "McMansions," but the size and luxury of our housing today is terrific. All I have to do is compare the homes I owned with the ones my kids own. My oldest son's is worth at least 800K, and my daughter's is well over 1.5 Mil. Part of that is California land prices, but the homes are still outstanding.

I wouldn't want them. Too big to clean.
