Good point. I'm not sure what the current XP pro currently supports. I was just refering to statements that MS made regarding software licensing being per-socket, so I assumed that they would cover this situation (DualCore+HT). The same would apply to upgrading a dual socket Opteron (which XP Pro already supports) to dual core.

Being unsure, I just looked it up at MS:

Windows XP Professional supports up to two processors regardless of the number of cores on the processor
