David Lereah told a meeting in Dallas that the current housing boom is likely to last through the decade.

"The real estate market is still booming all across the U.S.," Mr. Lereah said. "You can't apply conventional wisdom to the real estate markets anymore.

Isn't this the exact sort of thing which was said about the stock market right before it crashed?

RE:"Demographic pressures are so strong that the U.S. housing market will continue to grow even if interest rates rise, the chief economist for the National Association of Realtors predicted Tuesday."

Fine, raise rates, see what happens.

While your at it, rescind the 1996 tax act and see what happens...

""In the last four years, the real estate boom generated $4 trillion in additional wealth," Mr. Lereah said. "The average household earned $50,000 [from housing investments] in this period. Can you do that in the stock market?"

Easily if you are in the junior resource and oil and energy stocks. Watch Chesapeake Gold CKG triple by years end ;-)

snip>>>>Demographic pressures are so strong<<<<<

That sent me on a three hour rabbit hunt. Google popped up with this dated article which got me started and has some valued imbedded links that were interesting.
housingzone.com

I got around to HUD's site and good sized pdf file containing three separate papers on the subject.
