Do not get thin skinned, Seventh! That is a great article, and I thank you for posting it. I spent a lot of time working in Zim, and agree with what the writer says. As one truck driver told me in private "we have been betrayed by our own leaders".

I do agree with Bearcat that articles like this are rarely publicised. If there was more publicity, earlier on, I do not think the situation would have deteriorated as badly as it did.

The whites had the economic power, the management skills and owned the land. The black farm workers had the farming skills, and the aspirations to become land owners. There was progress being made in land distribution. The thugs who took over the lands (and chased away both whites and blacks) had neither agricultural or management skills and lacked the ambition to work the land.

With irrigation, one can get 3 crops a year off of a lot of this fertile ground. Agricultural products were a major export to the EU, Now people are starving, and international agencies are barred from food aid distribution unless they go thru channels. Channels means the ZANU party. If you are not an ardent supporter of ZANU, no food for you or your family.

The British despite the injustices of colonialism did leave Zim with two great attributes. 1)A good infrastructure of roads, railroads, granaries and power plants etc. powering a good economy and 2) a good justice system with strong faith in that system among the general public.

Mugabe is destroying both.

son,

The best thing for resource investors is world prosperity. I see no reason that blacks and white in Zimbabwe should not share in it. Similarly I see no reason why Cubans or North Koreans should not breath free. When the world prospers our commodity stocks will soar - not because of fear of inflation or economic collapse - but because of demand!

You may not like my opinions but you will find them consistent. I especially do not need two year old article to make my points. Mugabe and Castro are protected by the left - why - who knows. Truly - the left has become the conservative anti change movement in our world.

The world is rapidly changing - Libya, Palestine, Afghanistan, Lebannon, Ukraine, Iraq - hard to believe this all could happen with a guy like Bush in the White House.

Here in the US the fear of change on the part of the democrats is stunning. Freedom for an education - NO! Freedom for self control of ones money - NO!

Why - heck if people ever prosper they will have no need of Democrats. It is interesting to see Hillary moving away from the loonies like Teddy fat boy Kennedy ( a true disgrace to his brother the American self made Irish )!
