Sometimes you really do need to hit bottom before you begin to see the light.

Just about all the time. Booze, drugs, etc. Everybody has to hit their personal bottom. It didn't get much lower for the Republicans than after Nixon's resignation. They have come a long way.

I don't know what the Dems can do. They are still tied up with socialism, "the light that failed." They know it, but will never admit it. Instead, we hear cries about "Globalization," "naked Capitalism," etc.

The goal is individual freedom. One of the tools used to get there is capitalism.

If their despair leads them to rethink their mantra, then that's a good thing. Sometimes you really do need to hit bottom before you begin to see the light.

With Howard Dean and Moveon.org leading the party, I wouldn't hold my breath. That bunch has concluded that the Democrats problem is that they need to move more towards the left.

Right now, it looks as if the sole Democratic figure getting ready to run as a centrist in 2008 is Hillary Clinton. Dumb, she is not.
