If you look at his words they sure don't offer a resounding endorsement: - Dell Inc. (DELL.O: Quote, Profile, Research) has renewed confidence in Intel Corp This is an amazing statement and it certainly implies that their confidence had wanned, probably significantly, in their sole supplier of processors. As a Dell customer I would not be feeling warm and fuzzy that they had to suddenly announce "renewed confidence" in their sole supplier of processors. - "We believe that Intel has responded," Responded? That's the best line he can come up with? If he had said Intel responded with a clearly superior line that will crush the competition then as a potential customer I would feel convinced that Dell feels convinced that their products are superior products and therefore I should buy them. However, that's not the case, there is no indication that the response was even positive. Did they hit a home-run or a foul ball? Not saying decisively speaks volumes. - "That is now beginning to put customers more at ease... More at ease? Sounds like Dell has some bug customers who are questioning their future roadmap and the consequences it may have in terms of performance, competitiveness etc. The fact that Intel's "response" is only "beginning" to put these customers at ease means the jury is still out. How these knee-jerk response processors perform when they are finally released will be the true deciding factor. Finally, just to be clear, I'm not offering this commentary as a reason Dell will once again reconsider AMD. My point here is that for Dell to say they are no longer looking at AMD based on such a weak endorsement of Intel reeks of insincerity and the IT managers who are on the fence can certainly smell it.
