I read into it that AMD knows that Smithfield is going to be a consumer flop until desktop applications take advantage of more than one core.

Anyhow, Intel is doing the very same thing!

They'll continue to sell the 3.73EE as their "high-end desktop processor". It'll cost more than, and significantly outperform, the "Smithfield Extremely Eccentric edition".
