If it were the opposite and we all consistently saved a major portion of our earnings, what kind of society would we live in?
Economics isn't my strong suit. We wouldn't buy so much stuff we don't really need, which is a good thing. And we might have more time for relationships. But that would slow growth, which is a bad thing. Fewer jobs, more expensive products, which would cut into savings. Who knows.
