<<<Options and IRAs >>>

Most (all?) brokers allow long options.
None allow short calls.
Few allow short puts secured by cash.

If you buy options with cash, 100%, and if you sell call options only on stocks held in the account, and if you sell puts that are 100% covered with cash balances, the options are fully covered by the account. Margin is not allowed for IRAs. I am not allowed to deal in options in my IRAs.

you can not sell naked calls.
You can sell cash covered naked puts.
You can buy all the calls or puts you want.
You can not short but you can trade futures.
Since many of the big stocks have SSFs you can short them
INTC MSFT AMZN C JPM etc can be shorted via SSFs.
You can buy or short futures at will even in an IRA.
They will stop you out if your acct balance gets too low.
