It's really too bad that most of the world still lives in such poverty that they cannot really comprehend how important it is in the big picture not to chop down forests to survive. When societies become more middle class, they have the leisure time and financial security to contemplate values like saving monarch butterflies.

I thought the Mexicans were to some degree blaming America overmuch for the butterfly's disappearance. However, it is complicated figuring out how much our GMO corn in particular is contributing to the problem. It definitely is a factor.
