I agree 100%. Folks have played the blame game throughout history. Given Clinton's indiscretions it was easy for the right to pile on. Largely because of the failure to accept the election of a minority president in 2000, the left turned savagely against Bush and with the exception of the brief period around 9/11, it has gotten far worse. Folks who might normally seek bipartisan outcomes now try to outshout each other in their attacks. So why then do they expect him to take them seriously while they spout political bile?
As far as your view of the world, you nailed it. The enemy out there must be totally destroyed. The fact that more jihadis may be created or drawn into iraq, is more than balanced by the turning al quaeda (the base) into the Taliband on the run.
Make no mistake, we are winning this war. There will be setbacks along the way. We know this. Yesterday was the anniversary of the flag raising on Iwo Jima. I think they said that 14 of the 18 guys who raised the flags were subsequently killed in battle. There were close to 7000 marine deaths in that battle. The size and scope of WW2 battles makes this operation look like skirmishes. Doesnt make what is happening in iraq less terrible. Doesnt make the sacrifice of american soldiers less meaningful. What it does is put things in context. WW2/WW3. Mike
