From Fleck:

Hi Fleck
I am just wondering why would you tell the whole world you will be selling US dollar in the case of south korea? In the case of china and japan, I think they will only tell the world after the fact.

• Great question... here is my answer- they didn't know it would matter like it did, and it mattered just because the "ideas time had come"... the paper put out by the Koreans appeared to be some sort of bureaucrat to government type briefing... the FACT that the world siezed on it is the real news. I believe had that same info came out say two weeks ago, when the dollar was bouncing- it would have been ignored, as were other statement by other CB's... the Koreans had no clue markets would get so roiled... it was the response to this news that matters more than the news... it will put other dollar holders on edge...

<GLD doesn't buy or sell bullion>

I think you are mistaken on this. If you look at the bottom of this page you can see how many tons are in the trust and that it is listed daily. Market makers sell stock and they are supposed to convert it to gold. And likewise if stock is sold they liquidate bullion. But they evidently have enough time to do the conversions that they can play with the money to effect the gold price. They are front running gold futures.
