GV, here it is:

Japan's proportion of GDP invested in overall R&D began to surpass that of the United States in 1989 and has continued for several years. (From 1975-88, the United States invested a relatively larger amount in R&D than did Japan.)

And:

“Research in the United States is waning. In 1985, the U.S. spent 1.25 percent of GDP on R&D. Today we’re spending 0.75 per cent.” Holding constant for inflation, the $75 billion spent in 1987 represents the largest U.S. investment, he said.

The report said 13 countries, including Canada, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and a number of European nations, now produce more college graduates with science, engineering or technology degrees than the United States, when the size of their populations is taken into account.

Meanwhile, we spend $450B on wars, while our R&D goes downhill. As an investor, am watching these numbers to get prepare for a shift.

Ironically, our govt refuses entry of highly educated immigrants (or we deport them due to visa technicalities), while allowing uneducated immigrants and gang members to enter this country by the floods. Look no further than SJ or Campbell for illegal immigrant gangs from South America according to my highly educated immigrant friend from the same country - the world's nastiest criminals get to enter and live in our country illegally, but not the world's best PhD candidates. Reportedly, 1 million to 2 million uneducated illegal immigrants enter vs 60,000 educated immigrants ---- America, only for the uneducated. Our govt truly has it backwards.

Cut the war budget and redirect it to R&D.
