Talonnews.com is presently in the midst of a "top to bottom" review:

Talon News Gets the Hook in Wake of 'Gannongate'

NEW YORK First it lost "Jeff Gannon" as its White House correspondent. Then it scrubbed all of his articles from its site. Now Talon News is going dark.

The Web site, closely linked to Texas Republican activist Bobby Eberle and his GOPUSA.com, posted a message on its home page today announcing that Talon was going offline for, as it said, a "top-to-bottom" review.

James Guckert, better known by his pen name Jeff Gannon, got press credentials for two years at the White House under his alias, first under the auspices of GOPUSA, then Talon News. He has since been linked to male escorts sites and has refused to deny working as a prostitute, most recently on this morning's NBC "Today" show.

Here's the Talon News statement:

"The recent public focus on Talon News, while much of it malicious, has indeed brought some constructive elements to the surface. It has also brought many kind messages of support, and for that we are extremely grateful.

"In order to better serve those readers across the country who enjoy Talon News content and look forward to receiving it each day, we feel compelled to reevaluate operations in order to provide the highest quality, most professional product possible.

"Thus, Talon News will be offline while we redesign the web site, perform a top-to-bottom review of staff and volunteer contributors, and address future operational procedures.

"We look forward to bringing an even better product to our readers in the future."

The attorney general can name a special counsel to investigate any matter he feels needs investigating. In 1978 the office of independent counsel was established to better and more quickly get to the bottom of such things as Watergate. It had to be voted on in congress and renewed several times since. The last time it came up for a vote (1999) it was voted to quit having them. This was just in time for junior. If it hadn't been voted down I would expect there to be at the very least 4 or 5 independent counsels investigating some of junior's and his henchmen's evil deeds. Well, I don't think he would have served a full 4 years of his first term before he was either forced to resign or impeached.

Special counsel and independent sound much the same but they are as different as night and day. Instead of "special" counsel it would be more aptly named if it was called "partisan" or "cover-up" counsel. At least it would when the person or person's being investigated get to name the counsel.

We'll probably never get to know what we really should know about the Plame affair. I'm not saying the report won't name someone as the person who outed Plame, i'm just saying we won't know any more than they feel they are forced to tell us and that may not be all true.
