re: Tax reduction can only benefit taxpayers. Since the 51% of the population that pays taxes is in your definition, rich, of course when we needed to stimulate the economy to prevent major recession, taxpayers were the beneficiaries.

It didn't "prevent a major recession", it artificially interfered with the business cycle. Bush has run up deficits that are going to lead to a much, much worse recession; he's running the government on the Fed credit card.

Worse, if the countries that are holding 40% of that debt decide to diversify, then we will not be able to afford to buy imports. And we are a service society, without the means to manufacture the goods we need. We are even net importers of agricultural products, for the first time in our history.

This is a recipe for stagflation, or much worse. Bush has put us in a very precarious position. And with his diplomatic charm, he's not making many friends overseas. In fact, politically, other nations are coming together to counter the US.
