Earlie, I think you have to think about how an addict would behave. An addict will risk life and limb to support his or her addiction, and the risks over time become greater. An addiction specialist Ann Wilson Shaef wrote, "All addictions lead to death," and not always one's own death of course -- drunk drivers kill others, for example. In the US, I think the biggest ill is socialized shopping addiction. Not everybody has it of course, but it's fingerprints are everywhere.
