People are getting sidetracked from the point. Hopeless deals with the future. Dipy says that he absolutely knows the future yet is unable to support it in any way. You and Chinu have also reverted to the past.

hope·less (hop'lis)
adj.
Having no hope; despairing. See synonyms at despondent.
Offering no hope; bleak.
Incurable.
Having no possibility of solution; impossible.

Bush has indeed made mistakes. No doubt about it and he has failed to admit them. Unfortunately, sometimes it makes sense not to during a war...put the partisan politics aside for a second. I have no argument with what you wrote. We can write a lilst of mistakes for everyone in Washington and on this thread for that matter.

But, the point of evasion is the future. Dipy made a call and now avoids it. I have stated that I am interested in knowing why it is hopeless. BAck it up. No one has. They revert to guys were killed (past) we know that!

Men will be killed in the future. That is the horror of war.
Is it hopeless that we will ever be able to live peacefully again...ever? Why?
