The medical equipment makers try to push all of their liability onto the physician.

That is the prime source of malpractice insurance rates.

Malpractice insurance is but a small part of medical costs.

Yes, they are.

I'd guess that it has a hell of a lot more to do with insurance companies doing their revenue projections in the 90s based on investment gains that vaporized... the "insurance fraud" argument and "malpractice insurance" argument are red herrings.

Actually, your explanation is the "red herring." The increase in lawsuits is a long-term trend and dates back beyond the 90s.

Speaking of which, my parents wanted me to be a doctor. Looking at all of my stressed-out friends who went through residency, once thing is for certain ... I love my job!
