I have a male mulberry that produces only two undesirable outputs (catkins and pollen in Spring and a massive leave fall in December, all in 2 weeks). However, the rest of the year it produces bountiful shade and I love it dearly. I fought of a fungus infection 10 years ago and won. It had mushrooms sprouting from a branch and a place where termites had ruined one side. A good spray of fungicide for 2 consecutive years and surgical removal of the infected branch saved it. The termite damage has healed over. I have it on a 3 year trim cycle, cutting the %33 of 2 year branches every year and 66% of the 1 year branches. No branch over 3 years stays.
