Enforcing the law is reactionary? Do you scream when a township puts up cameras? In many communities thy issue tickets for running red lights based on pictures at stoplights taken using a simple program. They are transmitted to the central office and a ticket is mailed out.

Why would it be reactionary to expect people to prove they have a right to vote? Suggesting a poll tax would be reactionary. The basic standard applied at the beginning of our republic was property ownership. Matching addresses to residents would be a reasonable standard.

Democrats would probably resist because it would make their cheating more difficult. Motivated people will think of ways to cheat regardless of hoe many obstacles you place in their way. Let’s put up a few basic obstacles. Otherwise there will be more votes from ineligible voters than from people who have the right.
